Blogs, Wikis Vs. Google Docs

Blogs, Wikis and Google Docs

A lot of instructors ask me about the differences and or the similarities between a blog, a wiki and a google doc. Each of them serve a purpose. A blog is your personal space where you write your thoughts. You are the author of the content in your blog. A wiki is typically used by instructors to create a collaborative writing space for the students. In a wiki such as PB Works Wiki students can write and edit each others work and also see each others revision history. There is also a discussions tab which allows students to discuss their ideas and to collaborate. In Google Docs you can see the edits as they happen live. Google docs allow easy access to the Collaborative tool. Both wikis and google docs creates a collaborative writing space.
